DCFCCA
Dakota County Family Child Care Association
Established 1978
DCFCCA held its 12th annual spring conference on March 1st, 2008.  A record
155 child care professionals attended.  The conference was held at the South
St. Paul Hotel and Conference Center.

Our Keynote Speaker Jeff Johnson focused on stress and burnout during his
presentation.  “Awesome”, “Energetic” and “Amazing” were just a few words
given by participants describing Jeff.   He was so well liked, attendees have
requested for him to present at future conferences.

Other trainings included Supervision U, Nutrition, Curriculum Planning, Children’
s Allergies, Financial Planning, Children’s Behavior, Improving Your Indoor and
Outdoor Environments and our always popular, Child Care Home Tour.

A continental breakfast was offered to all attendees and vendors.  A sit down
lunch was provided including a choice between a French Dip sandwich and a
Chicken Sandwich, both served with a mixed green salad and baby red
potatoes.  Following, was cake for dessert.  In the afternoon, cookies were
available for everyone.

Participants registered for the conference were automatically entered into our
door prize drawings that took place after lunch.  Door prizes were donated by
our vendors.   The vendor room was quite full, with a steady stream of
shopping going on.

At noon, the 2008 Outstanding Providers were announced.  This year, 23
providers were nominated for this great honor.  DCFCCA was extremely
excited to have Burnsville’s Mayor, Elizabeth Kautz, in attendance.   Her show
of support to the child care profession was uplifting to all in attendance,
especially Edie Stellick, the Burnsville provider that was one of the four
recognized.  Also recognized were Pat Gentz, Deborah Schneider and Hannah
Huberty.  Congratulations to those 4 dedicated providers!

$446 was raised to go to our raffle recipient, Jacob Vitek.  Jacob is an 11 year
old son of a child care provider in Inver Grove Heights that was recently
diagnosed with cancer.  A digital camera, dvd player, microwave oven and TV
were raffled.  All proceeds are going directly to Jacob and his family to assist
them during this difficult time.

DCFCCA’s next conference will be Saturday, March 7th, 2009.  Mark
your calendars now, and be sure to register early.  Due to space, the
conference will be limited to 140 participants.
